Match On Action

Match on action (cutting on action) is an editing technique used in continuity editing. It involves cutting from one shot to another, the first shot will show a character beginning an action e.g. opening a door. The editor will then cut from the first shot and show the character completing the action from a different angle. This creates a sense of continuity as the action carrying through creates a 'visual bridge' which draws the viewers attention away from slight cutting or continuity issues. This is different to a graphic match because it portrays a continuous sense of the same action rather than matching two separate things.

  1. This is sound work Connor. You need to be more visible on the blog however - make more individual labelled posts and take responsibility for making analytical decisions and choices. Record and explain all aspects of the process.
