Research and Planning - Practising Sound
For the piece were are using lots of dialogue which means that we need a way to effectivly capture the sound. There are a few different ways we can do this. There is:
Sound Recorder:
The sound recorder can have a microphone plugged into it or it can capture sound with the built in mircophone. An advantage to this is if you plug a mic into it then you can caputure the sound from the mic and the in built mic which means you will get the ambient sound as well.
Shotgun Mic:
This microphone is a shotgun mic which means that it only captures the sound that it is pointed at. This is good for picking up any sound and it could be good for recording our own foley sounds.
Lapel Mic:
A lapel mic can be attatched to someones shirt very easily with a clip. It is a good mic for capturing dialogue. This mic can be plugged into an external sound recorder and the sound will be synced up in editing or the lapel mic can be connected directly to the camera and the sound from the mic will be automatically synced up. We practised using a lapel mic connected directly to the camera and it worked very well and we got clear and crisp audio.
Iphone build in mic:
The in built iPhone microphone is a good microphone to use as a back up. It can capture audio with a free recording app or it can be used as a secondary camera and only the audio from the footage will be used. I have done a test with the microphone:
Built in camera mic:
The in built microphone that is on the camera is not the best quality micrphone. It will tend to pick up lots of background noise and if we are going to film in a noisey place then that will not be good for our final piece. However, the audio from the microphone is automatically connected to the video captured which means that we can use the audio from the camera to sync up the audio from any other audio sources.
Shotgun or the Lapel mic would be the best option for what we want to do. However, we could use the iPhone mic as a backup.
